PHYSIS
Daykoda
The Reference: "PHYSIS"
"PHYSIS" is the second studio album from Milan-based artist Daykoda, released in 2021 on Beat Machine Records. This organic and expansive project is a conceptual work exploring the essential interdependency between Nature and Art.
Drawing on Daykoda's signature sound, the album features key collaborations with Robohands, Br1, Block Mameli, and a notable closing remix from the Bristol-based collective Ishmael Ensemble.
The Concept: An Ecological Call
Responding to a global call for ecological awareness, "PHYSIS" is built on the concept of Nature as a single, all-encompassing living entity. The music aims to be a direct artistic extension of this union, resulting in a sound that is meandering yet cohesive—climbing and crawling like the natural alternation of events.
The album’s foundation is built on tumbling jazz drums, wonky hip-hop samples, and billowing beats.
Track Highlights & Collaborations
The A-side opens with the shimmering intro "Cosmic Nature," leading into the expansive, live-session feel of "Eyes Open," driven by forceful synths and an adventurous sax. The tone shifts to the "Stones Throw"-influenced tracks "Radiate" (feat. Br1), "Green Leaves" (feat. Block Mameli), and "Adapted Leaf."
The A-side closes with the pastoral "My Abstract Monkey," a key track featuring the multi-instrumentalist Robohands. The B-side ventures into the intricate, doomy pads of "Jungle War" before resolving with the sun-kissed warmth of "Ten Little Fingers."
The album concludes with a hypnotic, smoky remix of "My Abstract Monkey" by the Ishmael Ensemble, creating a poised harmony that completes the album's core concept.
